WHAT DOES YOUR FAMILY DO FOR CHRISTMAS

Hi Everyone, I am interested to know how your families celebrate Christmas.

For my family it is a big family event at Mum and Dads. It is a big song and dance and you must be there for Breakfast and Lunch. You must ensure that you are there before 7.30am to ensure that breakfast is all finished but 8.30 at the latest so the presents can be opened. It is very regimented and a little harrowing for me as the stress leading up to and on the day of Christmas is a little more than I can handle. For me it is particularly more stressful than that as my girls go to their Dad's after lunch and the whole of my family is down on their Dad - It really upsets the whole Day.

This year we have extra family members and I am not sure how it will go but you know what I am going to do some stress busting things to ensure that the morning of Christmas goes off without a hitch.

So I would love to know what everyone in our community does? Would love to hear about it!!

Stuff I was not brought up doing. Nat and her tribe sing carols and have hot food. Crikey!! Then again they are from England and their xmas is usually cold. Now that my folks are 10hrs drive away I don't "do" christmas often with them anymore....shame, but young kids prohibit many things.... Even after 13years of Xmas with poms I don't feel like I fit in... I remember xmas being spent down the beach with a cold meat and seafood lunch. No carol singing and definately no hot food. I remember sweat, storms, street parties and neighbourhood bbqs. Christmas has been somewhat of a solemn event for me.... Do you find this valuable?

Christmas is cancelled.

when i was a kid it was the only day we were aloud to be noisy for a few hours in the morning. and then dad would go back to bed after lunch and things went back to the usual.

nowadays i live in a different state and work has cancelled leave so i'm doing a dad, by working christmas eve and then sleeping through the day of christmas.

Well, I don't mean to sound like a "Debbie Downer" or a "Grinch", but Christmas has never been my favorite time of year. As a child, since my parents were separated, it was always an uncomfortable situation figuring out who we would see on which day - Christmas Eve or Day. As a child, it was difficult to have two different celebrations with each side of the family - Dad's side & Mom's side. My mom, being the saint that she is, would have liked all the family too, but my Dad, being very bitter and angry, wanted separate get together's. But then, my mom's mother was pretty bitter at him so I suppose that would make him pretty uncomfortable too. I always wished we could be a normal family and celebrate together with everyone talking to eachother and having fun.
With that said, Christmas time triggers a lot of childhood 'sadness' and through the years has turned into a depressing time of year for me. These days, I just show up where I'm told, get it over with ,and pretty much become quite a bitch during the season. I think "they" say anger is a secondary emotion which I'm sure covers up the sadness attached to what is suppose to be a happy festive time of the year.
