Memory
Aug 22 2008, 10:36 AM EDT
after reading this up date on memory a few of the pieces of the puzzle of why i have never had a plan for the future is intriguing. how common is this? how far does your research go? how many people have you interviewed for this study? my short term memory is atrocious, and my long term is just not there. if i'm having a bad week i won't remember it the next. is it a defence mechanism? is it self preservation? does it derive from the research into the Gene pool? if anyone wants some tips on ways to remember things, i have a few things that i do to ensure that i atleast manage to get out the door with everything i need. for example all of my work stuff is plased in the same spot every night and a check list that i've had drilled into me is ticked off as i go, like keys, wallet, phone, book, ipod etc. and i can't go to bed till i know that everything is there. the other one is at work i have a note book that i have everything written into so that when i need to give information i have it on hand. it's all survival stiff but it does help when some days you can't even remember how you got out of bed, just a thought Samara 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Your memory concerns are not uncommon. Find what is your best form of remembering things..is it music, paintings, pictures, places, letters, smells, etc. This will help you know if you have dominance in auditory, visual, kinesthetic or olfactory memory. Another great place to start exploring is google....seriously. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"everything has a place. call it OCD. but it works. everything has a place. and a place for everything. as long as your regimental about what and where you put stuff it gets easier. if this one doesn't work. get a partner with a really good memory!!!! lol nah seriously. like isaid before all of my work stuff (it's my livelihood i cannot screw it up) is in one place. so i am always ready and always prepared. I'm in the final throws of finishing an engineering diploma.Lord only knows what made me think I'd have the gusto to do it, but finally we're getting there. It's been a MASSIVE battle, because I really do *s t r u g g l e* to remember things, sometimes things learnt only an hour or two before. Exams have been hell. I just assumed it was because I'm an older student, but have noticed more and more the difficulty I have remembering the simplest of things, and how much harder it's getting to have things really register in my brain. This afternoon, the kids dance teacher was calling out steps, and these are dances I've seen done a million times, but I was sitting there wondering what the heck 'third step' was, and couldnt even vaguely recognise it in my mind, and when I saw them do it, I just felt glad I hadnt externalised any of my thoughts... sounds like me - my memory is shocking and great chunks of it are missing. especially my childhood but some of my adult life is missing too. the other night Steffi came in to say something was wrong with Aubrey (our dog) and I said to her who is Aubrey? Steffi was horrified I forgot. I just couldn't remember who the dog was. not the first time something like that has happened either. my memory is just getting worse

I don't remember anything from my childhood or even some of my 20's. This is the first I've heard of others with a similar problem. Is not remembering a good thing or should I just figure...to hell with it...best I don't remember anyhow?

My short term memory is gone, but my long term memory is still there. If you pissed me of ten years ago, or hurt me in some way, I can still remembber every pathetic dettails about it. It's weird.
